The Border Gavaskar Trophy has ended with a delightful series win over the Aussies with 2-1. The 4th test match at Gabba was not only remarkable, but also historical in many ways. The host kangaroos played phenomenal in this match but the young Indian side overpowered them in the end. Let’s talk about the key take outs from this match.

The performance in this series by Indian side showed the bench strength of the team. With more than 10 players being injured, Indian side was compelled to play with inexperienced players who showcased their performance exceptionally. Other than Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, no other player had experience of more than 10 test matches. It was a setback for team India but the young players accepted the challenge and performed beyond expectation.

Before the last game, the series was leveled with 1-1 and Australia had taken the riding seat in the game in the first couple of days. A score of 369 in 1st innings and getting opposition to 185-6 was the platform set for the Aussies. But then came in the young pair of batsmen Sundar and Thakur who had 0 and 1 match experience respectively. The 123 run partnership between the two was the first counter punch by the Indian side. They made sure that India is still not out of the game.

After being left behind with 33 runs, Indian bowlers took the turn now. MD Siraj took his first 5 wicket haul with assistance from Shardul Thakur. Again the youngsters were at test and they performed their best. On the final day, a chasable score of 325 was to be followed and star batsman Rohit Sharma gave away his wicket early. Again, the youngsters took the charge. 97 by Shubman Gill and 89 by Rishabh Pant led India to the remarkable victory.

Pant became the Man of the match for his not out 89 but this win was completely a team effort. After the early wicket of Rohit, Pujara secured one end and faced 200+ deliveries to bring India back in the game. Shardul Thakur performed with both bat and ball in this match and gave his valuable contribution.

With Ishant, Bhuvaneshvar, Bumrah, Shami, Umesh out of the show, the bowling side was all opened up for the Australian batsmen. Adding to it was the injury of Saini on the first day which was a grave concern for the caption. However, inexperienced Siraj and Shardul took the responsibility and bowled exceptionally. It was the class of these bowlers who kept India in the game.

The Gabba fortress was breached only because of the young force. To be mentioned, that Indian players faced racial abuses throughout the series, by the hosts but nothing worked for the Australian side. It showed their commitment and dedication for the game.

If we talk about the entire tour, the first two losses were a major setback for team India. Then, the team charged up to win the last game and then claimed the T20 series with 2-1. It showed the host side that the team is committed to win games and they can bounce back without any prior signs.

No doubt Indian cricket is in safe hands. Even in the absence of skipper Virat Kohli, team India claimed the trophy with authority. It is the domestic cricket and IPL which has provided a platform for young talents. Except Siraj, most of the performing players have shown their performances in IPLs.

The next England tour is awaited as Indian team is all charged up. Indian side is ready to combat on any pitch as we have excellent records overseas, especially in England. Live match updates and Predictions will be available on cricdaddy.com
