West Indies Setting Foot in England- 2020

It was sad news for die-hard cricket fans when matches and tournaments had to be called off due to the outbreak of the Corona pandemic. The last match before the spread of this virus was ICC World Cup ODI between Australia and New Zealand. Afterwards, all international games around the world had to be postponed.

The four long months seemed endless. However, after the temporary halt, the Test Match between England and West Indies has brought back the smiles and spirit of cricket admirers.

This Test is also special as it resumed cricket matches, bringing back the meaning of life for cricket lovers. The game started off on July 8th and is scheduled to end on the 28th of the same month. Both the teams are under pressure to make the games as befitting as they can.

The first Eng vs. WI took place on 8th July 2020 in Ageas Bowl, Southampton. Both the teams were filled with confidence and determined to give their best. Before the first game, England’s stand-in captain Ben Stokes stated, “We’re grateful we’ve been given an opportunity to get back onto the field and we’ll be doing everything we can to make sure we don’t mess it up”.

The first match did not go down well for Ben and his team as they got defeated in their own ground. Jermaine Blackwood paved the path of victory for his team as he stood out to be the prime reason for the defeat of the Englishmen. Since 2000, in England vs. West Indies cricket, the Englishmen have won all the matches between the two countries. But this year, West Indies’ fortune took a 180-degree turn. West Indies Tour of England has filled the Indies people with pride after the first game.

England seems to be struck with bad luck this time. It received its second blow when ace bowler, Jofra Archer got suspended for his conduct. This has been one of England vs. West Indies cricket match highlights recently.

Archer did not take the straight path to Manchester from Southampton. He visited his home back in Sussex to meet his better half. Although unintentional, Archer had made a grave mistake to have done this. It was considered unacceptable by the ECB, which ultimately decided to suspend the cricketer.

Archer was quick to apologize and realized that he has put his entire team in danger.

The rigorous battle is on between the two teams. While the Indies people are hoping for a second victory, the Englishmen are focused on giving the opposite team a tough competition. The pair of Shelby and Stokes has given the team a forward push.

As of July 17th, West Indies vs. England live scores stand at 207/3 where West Indies is yet to bat. The 3rd Test is to be held on the same Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester on 24th July.
