Suresh Raina says goodbye to international cricket.


Just when the billions were shocked by the surprising news of Dhoni’s retirement, Suresh Raina announced his retirement from international cricket following the footsteps of Dhoni! In his farewell post to Dhoni on Insta, he also announced his decision to step away.

 “It was nothing but lovely playing with you, Dhoni . With my heart full of pride, I choose to join you in this journey. Thank you India. Jai Hind!”

Both posted messages on Instagram with Dhoni posting an emotional video collage of his journey as Indian cricketer and Suresh Raina as well posted on his Instagram that he is joining Dhoni in international retirement.

.Both were part of India’s 2011 World Cup and 2013 ICC Champions Trophy victories and play for Chennai Super Kings together in the IPL.

MS Dhoni made his India debut in 2004 against Bangladesh in an ODI and Test debut came against Sri Lanka in 2005. He played a total of 90 Tests, 350 ODIs and 98 T20I matches making 4876 Test, 10773 ODI, and 1617 T20I runs with a total of 16 centuries to his name. His best Test score was 224 agaisnt Australia and highest ODI score was 183* against Sri Lanka.

Suresh Raina made his India debut in 2005 and Test debut in 2010. He played 18 Tests, 226 ODIs and 78 T20Is for India. His last game for India came in 2019. He made 5615 ODI, 768 Tests and 1605 T20I runs with total of 7 centuries. He was the first Indian to score centuries in all three international formats.

Both MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina share a special friendship and it shows that both retired on the same day.

Suresh Raina has been one of the consistent players in the Indian cricket team. He was an outstanding batsman, a crucial part-time off-spinner and a magnificent fielder. Raina’s fielding was top notch! His eyes were always on the ball and if the ball was in his vicinity, then the team always knew that Raina is on the job. Raina was the first Indian to join the elite club of scoring centuries in all formats of the game! Raina always played with calm head and he always soaked under great pressure. The 33 year old is among the few who scored Centuries across all Formats having played 18 Test,226 ODIs and 78 T20 International with almost 8000 International runs.He was Great Fielderand and Master of Cameos in Whole Career.

It was too early for Suresh Raina at age of just 33 to Retired from International Cricket,Bit Shocking but if when you Know it,Know it.

Hopefully we would see an incredible Suresh Raina in Upcoming IPL with his Captain MS Dhoni from 19th September.

India tour of England, 2014 – 2nd ODI

India were at 110/3, when Raina walked to bat at Cardiff. Soon Dhoni joined him in the middle as Rohit Sharma walked back at 132/4. Then what followed was the Raina-Dhoni Show! Once again the pair did wonders as they put up a partnership worth 144 runs for the fifth wicket! Raina dominated the partnership with 75 ball 100 that included 12 fours and 3 sixes. Dhoni further stretched the show to get India to 304! The total looked too big for England as India won the game by 143 runs.

India tour of Sri Lanka, 2010 – 3rd Test

In his maiden test series, Suresh Raina stitched two memorable partnerships with VVS Laxman! Raina walked in when India were in a state of bother at 199/4 in response to Sri Lanka’s 425! VVS and Raina put up a 105 runs partnership. Raina scored vital 62 which helped India gain 11 runs lead!

Once again VVS and Raina were in action in the fourth innings chasing 257 runs. The pair put up an unbeaten partnership of 87 runs. Raina scored quickfire 41.

England tour of India, 2006 – 2nd ODI

Chasing 227, India were struggling at 92/5. Dhoni and Raina joined forces to bail India out with 118 runs partnership! Raina scored unbeaten 81 and stayed till the end to take India home.

World Cup, 2015 – Pool B, Match 39

India were under serious pressure chasing 288 against Zimbabwe at 92/4. The experienced campaigners Dhoni and Raina yet again joined forces with unbeaten 196 runs partnership. Raina scored a brilliant 110 in 104 balls with 9 fours and 4 sixes.

T20 World Cup, 2010 – Group C, Match 5

Raina’s class was at full display against South Africa in 2010 T20 World Cup. Raina became the first Indian to score a T20I century. Raina scored 101 off 60 balls. Raina had hit 9 fours and 5 sixes enroute to his century!
