“You have almost finished my son’s career and now you have to sign a t-shirt for me”, Chris Broad, the father of Stuart Broad said to Yuvraj Singh and Yuvraj gave him his Indian jersey with a good luck message for England Cricket.
Yuvraj has revealed this discussion of him with Chris Broad during a BBC Podcast. Back in 2007, India was in its best form during the maiden World T20 Championship when Yuvraj Singh was turning out to be the key batsman for the Indian side. In the league match against England, Yuvraj was on strike in the 19th over of the match against Stuart Broad.
Broad bowled six deliveries and all of them bounced off the ground only outside the fence, in all directions. MS Dhoni, on the other end, just stood still and enjoyed the show when Yuvraj cracked the fireworks. Yuvi scored 58 runs in just 14 balls he played, paving the way for a comfortable win for India. India won the match with comfortable 18 runs margin.
Yuvi did know how it feels to be flodged like that, as a bowler. A few weeks ago, while bowling against Dmitri Mascarenhas in an ODI, Yuvi was hit 5 sixes in an over. Paying the due back, Yuvraj slammed six against the same England side.
“After hitting the sixth six, I looked at Broad first and then at Dmitri, who gave him a smile in return”, Yuvraj revealed. Many had said that Yuvraj might have ended the career of Stuart Broad and Stuart’s father Chris believed the same, in a way.
Chris, being a match referee, met Yuvraj and asked to sign a t-shirt for him. Yuvraj signed his own with the message, ’I have been hit for five sixes so I know how it feels. For the future of England Cricket, All the Best’.
“Stuart is one of the best bowlers in the world now. I don’t think any bowler from India could get hit for six sixes in an over and then have such a fantastic career,” Yuvraj added. He also told how all-rounder Andrew Flintoff angered him that lead him to hit the back to back sixes.
