PROFILE

Portuguese-born Moises Henriques moved to Australia at the tender age of one. He is currently considered as a talented and upcoming cricketer especially in the limited-overs format of the game.

Henriques first came into notice as a young 16 year old as a part of the Under-19 World Cup squad for Australia in 2004. He impressed everyone with a wicket tally of 11. He was subsequently made the captain of the squad in the 2006 edition of the tournament. This outing proved even more better for him as he ended the Cup on a high finishing as the leading wicket-taker with 16 scalps and also added a total of 150 runs.

He made his first-class debut for New South Wales against South Australia in 2006. Soon after, he registered impressive figures of 5 for 17 against Queensland. However, inconsistent performances and a shoulder injury pushed him into the sidelines. He regained fitness and came back strongly for his club team St George, in Sydney Grade Cricket and earned back his place in the domestic team. Henriques made his T20 international debut against New Zealand in 2009. He also replaced an injured James Hopes for the tour to India the same year, where he made his ODI debut.

Henriques made his Test debut in 2013 for the tour to India. He was pretty impressive in his first game, scoring 68 in the first innings followed by an even better 81 in the second. However, he has not been a part of the Test squad since that tour.

Interesting fact: Henriques was born at the same place as football legend Cristiano Ronaldo.

IPL – Through the years

After a few nomadic seasons – 2009 with KKR, 2010 with DD as a swap for Manoj Tiwary, 2011 with MI and 2013 with RCB – with hardly a consistent chance anywhere, until 2014 when he was picked by the David Warner-led SRH. It was then that he got consistent chances, mostly as a number three, and he played a big role in their 2016 victory campaign. Currently coming on the back of being unsold last year, Henriques could play a big part in a rather inexperienced Punjab side.
