It has been a year since India has played a match at home and fans are eager to see how India vs England series turns out to be. According to the BCCI’s statement, it will be the very first time since the COVID-19 pandemic; fans will be allowed in the stadiums. According to the plans of BCCI, only Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad would allow complete attendance of fans. The other stadiums where the matches will be played namely MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, and MCA Stadium, Pune will restrict the number of spectators that can watch the match. The Indian team will be under a lot of pressure as well as would enjoy the presence of the home crowd and would get a lot of motivation.
Both India and England have declared their squads for the first two test matches and both teams are yet to declare their squads for the other two tests and the rest of the T20I and ODI matches. Experts suggest that India should form a more attacking team for the limited over matches and create a balanced team for red-ball cricket. The positive that India can carry throughout the series is that they have an exceptional squad depth. With the likes of experienced players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, and other pros, they have a brigade of young players who are capable of playing under pressure and would get a much favorable condition in their home nation. Another good news that Indian fans would enjoy is the return of Hardik Pandya across all formats. His powerful batting would add to the side’s dominance.
England on the other hand, poses a phenomenal threat to India, all due to the explosive form they have shown against Sri Lanka in the recent series. Their biggest plus is the return of the form of their captain Joe Root in tests. He already has a double century and a century under his belt in two tests. Dominic Bess and veteran James Anderson both have shown exceptional forms while bowling as Dominic Bess stands as the highest wicket-taker till now in the series. England’s selection board has rested Jonny Bairstow for the first two tests, who is an integral part of the team. They would miss his contribution.
A grave problem that England’s spinners would face is due to the pitches in India. The pitches in India are predominantly pacer friendly, offering lethal speeds and dangerous swings. England’s spinners might be ineffective for most of the series due to the aforesaid reason. India, on the other hand, should construct a pace majority team to make use of the dusty and humid conditions at home. England would also look forward to annihilating India with their world-class pace attack. The upcoming India vs England series would be a joy for the fans as Indian boys return to their duties at home and also fans would be allowed to enjoy the live action.
