India ended India vs England test series on a high note as they defeated their opposition at 3-1. India muscled across a difficult team like England with ease after a humiliating loss in the first test of India vs England test series. The pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium too played a part in India’s victories as it predominantly favored the home side. England’s side did not have an answer to India’s performance all across the series and especially in the last India vs England test match played at Ahmedabad.
India needed to win or at least draw in the final test match to qualify for the final of the World Test Championship. They managed to pull out a victory in just three days and thus going back on top of the ICC Test rankings and Championship table. India had their work cut out in the last match since the English players were pretty much aware of the conditions after the disastrous experience in the third India vs England test match, which happened to be a pink ball day-night test. The Indian team made mostly out of young lads who played a heroic match in the final test. Players like Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, and Rishabh Pant were the star performers for their side.
England played with their general instinct and had a lot of top performers in their team like Captain Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, James Anderson, and many more. But Indian batsmen like Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant were unmoved and unintimidated by the strong English side. They took to the bowlers and hit across all areas of the park. Rohit Sharma contributed massively in the last India vs England test match and had several heroic performances across the series. Rishabh Pant was India’s other star performer and went for a 101 off 118 deliveries in the first innings. His performance provided India with a solid position as followed from the India vs England scorecard. This knock was followed by Washington Sundar‘s unfortunate and unbeaten knock of 96 off 174 deliveries as he just missed out on his maiden international ton due to shaky lower Indian order.
As a reply in batting for England, only Dan Lawrence scored a 50 off 95 deliveries, which was not enough for them to chase down the trail. They suffered an innings and 25 runs defeat after the master performance from India’s spinner duo Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin both claimed a five-fer. Both these bowlers too contributed in the first innings as Axar Patel took 4 wickets for 68 runs and Ravichandran Ashwin claimed 3 wickets for 47 runs. These knocks would relieve the Indian fans for the upcoming final of the World Test Championship.
India’s captain Virat Kohli had a continuation of the drought in his form as he was unable to score a big run in this series. Though he scored some solid runs contributing to the team’s welfare. Another talking point of this India vs England test series was Rishabh Pant’s revelation as a wicketkeeper. He started on a low note but improved eventually and gave some heroic shows. His thunderous stumpings and brilliant catches caught everyone’s eye and he showed how much he is ready for the India vs England ODI series. Ajinkya Rahane took some crucial catches at the slip cordon making way for many English batsmen. Axar Patel too was resilient with his batting skills as he helped Washington Sundar down the order to put up a solid performance which only rubbed salt into the wounds of the opposition which can be seen on the India vs England scorecard.
Performances by the English batsmen were not up to the mark though Ben Stokes managed to score a solid 55 run knock off 121 deliveries in the first innings. He contributed too with the ball in hand in the first innings as he claimed 4 wickets including the important wickets of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli who returned for a duck yet again.
Fans would be excited for the India vs England ODI and T20I series which would have more fan attendance in the stadium to watch the match live in Pune and Ahmedabad respectively.
