England tour of India 2021 is going to start on February 5, 2021. England will play the first Test match against India in Chennai. The pitch is expected to help the spinners a lot. But Jofra Archer, England all-rounder believes that his team won’t face any issues because of that. It is worth noting that Jofra has played a ton of matches in India before. But they were all T20 matches of IPL. He doesn’t really have any experience of playing first-class cricket in the country.
Still, he believes with the spinners England has, it will be hard for India to out-spin them. It will be interesting to see Jofra Archer donning the whites against India and bowling with the SG ball. Usually, there isn’t much help to the fast-bowlers in India after the first day. Thus Jofra will have to bring varieties in his bowling, or else the Indian batsmen can just sit on top of his deliveries all day long.
In his column for the Daily Mail, Archer wrote that he expects Indians to build solid pitches good for test cricket; one which will help bowlers. He said England doesn’t fear turning pitches since they have got some good spinners as well. But we know, if India builds turning pitches or the ones which produce a lot of reverse swing, the visitors won’t have a lot of advantage.
There is James Anderson in the England squad who could prove quite lethal against India if the new or even the old ball swings. The only issue that fast-bowlers such as Jofra will face is the less bounce on the wickets. Indian pitches kind of die for fast bowlers as matches progress.
But even then, England won’t be too worried because they have just won a series against Sri Lanka in similar conditions. So they have an idea of how the pitch will play and the gameplan they should come out with.
Especially in the Chennai stadium, where the pitch turns a lot, it is expected that there will be more spinners than fast-bowlers involved in the game. It will be interesting to see the batting lineup that England comes out with and its bowling lineup. Nonetheless, it will be a very tough series for England.
Regardless of however good spinners or batsmen they have, playing against the Indian team in India will be a huge challenge, especially when the morale of the Indian team is so high after winning a historic test series against Australia.
It is expected that either of the teams will only play two fast-bowlers and one fast-bowling all-rounder along with two to three spinners. Ravichandran Ashwin will be a bowler to look out for in the initial matches in Chennai as it is his home ground. India will also play five T20s and three ODIs against England, which will stretch till March 28, 2021.
