T20 World Cup 2020 is the 7th ICC T20 World Cup tournament to be held from 18 October to 15 November 2020 in Australia. The t20 world cup final match would be held in Melbourne Cricket Ground. Fans love to watch the T20 game for its fun and thrill in every minute. There will be more turning points in the game compared to other matches. Batsmen have the pressure to score high within the short 20 over while the bowlers also have the pressure of taking wickets. This shortened format of cricket is most preferred by many numbers of players across the world. It would only last about 80 minutes per innings and gives complete entertainment.

Planning To Go Ahead:

Based on the official report on April 2020, International Cricket Council (ICC) stated that the tournament would be planned as per the schedule despite the COVID-19 pandemic situation. The t20 world cup schedule date has been announced by the ICC and confirmed the date. However, the senior ICC official states recently that there could be a risk of hosting the tournament in 2020. Report on postponing the tournament is inaccurate by ICC. There were many numbers of contingency plans that need to be looked for while conducting the tournament. On 10 June 2020, the ICC’s meeting was held, but the decision for tournament differed. A further announcement on the t20 world cup India will be announced in July 2020. Australia will be hosting the tournament on October-November 2021. Later, India will be hosting the tournament in the year 2022. The ICC women’s t20 world cup 2020 has been scheduled for February-March 2021 in New Zealand.

Another report states that the T20 World Cup 2020 could be postponed due to the pandemic outbreak. But no official statement from the Cricket in India (BCCI) and Cricket Australia (CA) has been announced. In the case of postponing the event, the tournament will be taking place the next year, 2021. Another major issue is that the BCCI has the right to hold the T20 World Cup 2021. A report states that the BCCI would be yielding the rights for hosting the premier event, such as the T20 World Cup.

International Cricket Council (ICC) is about to host the back-to-back meetings for deciding about the tournaments. A strong decision on ICC T20 World Cup 2020 will be made in this session. Contingency plans on the World T20 already shared with the members so that it would be easier to decide about the schedules on ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

India has the hosting rights on 50-over World Cup 2023. BCCI is not mainly prepared for hosting the T20 World Cup 2022 without completing the back-to-back ICC events. Another report states that BCCI has decided on hosting the tournament the next year. Indian Premier League (IPL) 13th edition has already been delayed from March because of the Coronavirus pandemic. BCCI has been looking for the best option for exploring the option for organizing IPL. IPL could also be hosted overseas in Sri Lanka or UAE.

In the previous years, BCCI also has offered the UAE cricket board for hosting IPL. IPL was also conducted in Sri Lanka, so it would be discussed in the governing council meeting. International Cricket Council (ICC) and The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is about to make the decision on the hosting issue of the ICC T20 World Cup.

BCCI’s share has been halved from the ICC profit. According to another source that states payment of $23.7 million is mainly held back in BCCI’s hosting fees of the 2016 T20 World Cup. Earl Eddings, chairman of Cricket Australia’s (CA), comes forth making the string decision on hosting T20 World Cup in Australia is unrealistic. Shashank Manohar, chairman of ICC, also refused the statement about postponing the tournament.

BCCI is also looking for a favorable early decision on when to host the T20 World Cup. Therefore, it would be easier for planning on postponing Indian Premier League (IPL) 13th Edition during September-October. When the ICC announces any postponement of the tournament this month, then players of the member nations, not the part of IPL, have bilateral series. BCCI official said that the delay in the decision on the tournament could be difficult.
