West Indies all rounder Dwayne Bravo believes that a player must be evaluated only by his performances on the field, and not by his age. In his recent interview, he said, “age is just a number and lot of players have gotten better with age.” I could’ve been about former Indian skipper MS Dhoni who has just announced his retirement from international cricket.
In his recent interview with ESPN Cricinfo, he said that it is probably a myth that T20 cricket is ment for the youth. He added, “Earlier, T20 format was considered to be a game for young players only. However, as time evolved, many senior players performed exceptional in the limited over format of game.”
“Anyone who challenges or questions our age, I don’t think our performance has ever dipped or dropped because of our age. As a matter of fact, most of us has performed just as good or even better. Age is just a number. Don’t judge a player by his age, but judge him by his performance and his ability to continue to play.”
He further added, “players like Chris Gayle(40), Shoaib Malik(38), Imran tahir(41) and lasith Malinga(38) have been playing in T20 tournaments and giving consistent performances. Each of them played a key role for their respective franchise.
In the 2019 IPL, Imran Tahir won the Purple cap for the most number of wickets at the age of 40. Along with Tahir, Dwayne Bravo(Chennai Super Kings), picked 11 wickets at an econmy rate of 8.01 in the previous season of IPL. He also added his aim is to contribute to the success of CSK in IPL2020.
CSK all-rounder Dwayne Bravo believes that contributing towards the winning of his franchise is more important that just aimimng to achieve the Most valuable player award. He wants to chip in with bat and ball both in the field.
“I am not interested in the ‘Most Valuable Player’ award in the IPL. I am interested in being able to contribute to my team Chennai Super Kings. Being as someone who bats at No. 7 and bowls near the death and back-end of the innings, it is hard to be the MVP. I want to be a player that contributes with bat and ball both in the field for his team.”
In the IPL, Dwayne Bravo is one of the only two bowlers who consecutively won the Purple cap twice. He is currently playing for Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL. The 36 year old all rounder has recently set up a record to his name by taking 500 wickets in the T20 cricket. He will join the Chennai Super Kings camp in UAE once the CPL concludes.
