The IPL is incomplete without the highest run-scorer getting lauded by the orange cap. This prestigious cap is something every batsmen eye to get under their possession. An extreme consistency throughout the Indian Premier League is towards achieving this cap. Extreme batsmen like Chris Gayle, David Warner, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul had this prestige with them in a few important seasons of the tournament. There are high possibilities of few bigshots to earn this accolade in the IPL 2021 season and take the cap’s aura forward.
The skipper is the attention of every eyeball in this season of IPL. The last edition of the premier league had the skipper pounding up 466 runs at an average of 42.36. Many felt that the skipper wasn’t at his very best form on the crease but this year had been saying differently about his form. Last year’s ODI run accumulation for the skipper led to a total of 431 with an average of 47.89. He already had 5 fifties with him but there were avenues for him to proliferate more. This 32-year-old being the highest run-scorer for Royal Challengers Bangalore at 5878 runs with an average of 38.16 is accounted to be the worthiest winner of the cap this season.
2021 has been a dreamy start for this 23-year-old. An amazing knock of 515 runs with an average of 64.38 in the whites on the Indian side marked the beginning of his year. Indian attack is today incomplete without Rishabh Pant. The last three editions of the Indian Premier League had been a crucial run-scoring arena for him. The 2020 edition saw him scoring 343 runs with an average of 31.18. Owing to his blasting form this year, he would be a worthy winner of the orange cap.
The defending champion of the IPL orange cap had displayed tremendous performance last season. KL Rahul was able to plunder 670 runs at an average of 55.83 on behalf of Kings XI Punjab. The last three seasons have been pretty astounding for the skipper and has scored above 17 fifties and 2 tons in the last 3 editions themselves.
David Warner is a tantalizing pick who will steal every eye even in this season of IPL 2021. His form is at the peak right from the last season in UAE 2020. The legend had a record-setting total of 548 runs for Sunrisers Hyderabad with an average of 39.14 and a strike rate of 134.64 in the 13th IPL edition. With a kitty filled with four fifties, and with a total run of 5254 runs, he is a strong contender to pick up the orange cap this season. He had already won it thrice in 2015, 2017, and 2019. 2021 can be his year ahead.
With his debut in 2020, Devdutt Padikkal shone impeccably on the crease. He was retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the IPL auction 2021 where he had accumulated a whopping total of 473 with an average of 31.53 last season. Achievement as an uncapped batsman for RCB, he also emerged out to be the highest run-scorer for the team. He too had been shining in the Vijay Hazare Trophy with blasting 4 centuries and 2 fifties. He toned up 673 runs in the tournament and we are greatly looking forward to his performance in the premier league too.
The IPL auction 2021 saw some glistening faces coming up to imminent franchises and we are very expectant to see more new gems rising the high scorer ladder this season.
