Full name Axar Rajeshbhai Patel

Born January 20, 1994, Anand, Gujarat

Playing role Bowling allrounder

Batting style Left-hand bat

Bowling style Slow left-arm orthodox

One of many left-arm orthodox spinners from Gujarat, Axar made his first-class debut for Gujarat at the tender age of 18, during a Vijay Hazare Trophy game in Mumbai and his Ranji Trophy debut in November 2012, but it had been only within the 2013/14 season that he began to deliver performances of greater significance, learning 29 wickets and scoring runs by the barrel.

Axar came into the general public limelight after he was signed by the Mumbai Indians for the sixth edition of the IPL. Mumbai didn’t utilize him much and he remained largely a fringe player for them throughout the season. Kings XI Punjab, however, roped him certain subsequent season, which clothed to be a successful move as he emerged together of the exciting young talents in his first season with the franchise.

A self-proclaimed batting all-rounder, Patel has had some trouble getting chances to bat up the order. Nevertheless, he has troubled many batsmen together with his accurate bowling, cramping the batsmen for room and buying wickets – the necessity of the hour in T20 cricket. Axar ended the IPL with 17 wickets and also scored some crucial runs down the order. Msot importantly though, Axar has come through with the ball for his captain George Bailey in pressure situations with the ball and was thereby a fine choice for the \”Emerging player of the tournament\” award. This earned him a period of probation with the Indian team at the tender age of 20, as he traveled to Bangladesh for the ODI series in 2014. He was impressive against Bangladesh and even did tolerably to stay first choice left-armer Ravindra Jadeja out of the side within the homes series against Sri Lanka . After a powerful showing, the selectors decided to stick with him and he retained his spot within the squad for the 2015 Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

With the Indian bowling attack heavy on pace thanks to the more seam-friendly conditions in Australia, Axar had to take a seat out and didn’t get an opportunity to play on the world’s biggest stage. He was back within the mix within the subcontinent, though, as India toured Bangladesh in June. Since then, he has been fairly regular within the side as India’s first-choice left-arm spinner in limited-overs cricket.

Axar omitted on selection for the 2017 Champions Trophy because the selectors chose the experience of Jadeja before Axar. However, after a dismal show within the tournament, Ravindra Jadeja has been preserved as a red cherry specialist. Pigeonholed as a limited-overs player, Axar is sure to get more opportunities to prove his mettle. With age on his side, and as a focused individual, Axar Patel is one among the best emerging players in India. together with his ability to attain quick runs with the bat and therefore the ability to strangle the runs, he’s custom-built for the limited-overs formats and is probably going to be an asset to the Indian team within the years to return .
