In response to Jasprit Bumrah’s tweet, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh set the India pacer a new test cricket challenge. “Your target is 400 !! Minimum,” Yuvraj wrote.
On Tuesday, James Anderson became the first fast bowler to take 600 Test wickets. He dismissed Pakistan’s Azhar Ali during the final day of the third Test to reach the milestone, becoming the fourth bowler to reach the 600-run mark.
Only Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan (800), Australia’s Shane Warne (709) and India’s Anil Kumble (619) remain ahead of Anderson. Kumble earlier took to Twitter to congratulate Anderson on achieving the milestone.
Later on Tuesday, India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah also took to Twitter to congratulate Anderson. He wrote, “Congratulations for your remarkable achievement @jimmy9! Your passion, fortitude and drive are exceptional, cheers and best wishes for the future. #600TestWickets.
Yuvraj Singh sets ‘400 minimum wickets ‘ test cricket challenge for Jasprit Bumrah
Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who has shared the dressing room with Bumrah while playing for Mumbai Indians in IPL, joined the conversation. He stated that Bumrah should target at least 400 wickets in the traditional format of the game.
Yuvraj Singh played many matches with Jasprit Bumrah as they were a part of India’s ICC T20 World Cup and ICC Champions Trophy squads in 2016 and 2017, respectively. The two players also played together for Mumbai Indians last year.
Bumrah has emerged as one of the best fast bowlers in the world during the last few years. He has led the Indian pace bowling department to perfection and was one of the main reasons behind India’s historic Test series win in Australia last year.
The Ahmedabad-based bowler had become the fastest Indian pacer to 50 Test wickets, and Yuvraj Singh expects him to scalp a minimum of 400 wickets in red-ball cricket. The former World Cup winner gave the following reply to Jasprit Bumrah’s tweet:
Bumrah has so far played 14 Tests in which he has taken 68 wickets at an average of 20.3. He has also played 64 ODIs in which he has taken 104 wickets at an average of 24.4. The right-arm pacer also played 50 T20Is in which he has taken 59 wickets.
However, the upcoming IPL 2020 being held in UAE, serves as a great opportunity for the lanky pacer to get his groove back.
Meanwhile, Yuvraj Singh also took to Twitter to praise Anderson on his feat, and congratulated the English seamer. “Never thought I’d see in my lifetime a fast bowler take 600 test wickets! It’s not just the quantity but the quality with which he has bowled – be it slow or fast wickets, bounce or no bounce, seam or no seam, for him conditions never mattered! Sir @jimmy9 you are the #GOAT,” he wrote.
The 38-year-old pacer, speaking after the match against Pakistan, said that he still feels he brings something to the table for England, and said that reaching the 700-wicket landmark is not something that he is ruling out yet. “I didn’t bowl as well as I’d have liked for the whole summer. But in this Test I was really on it and I feel like I’ve still got stuff to offer this team. As long as I still feel like that I think I’ll keep going. I don’t think I’ve won my last Test matches as an England cricketer yet. Can I reach 700? Why not?” he said.
