5 Players Who Could Have Achieved Better Bids in IPL 2021

IPL player auctions are one of the intriguing cricket shenanigans where cricketers around the world are picked by multiple franchises to compete for the title. 2021 edition of the IPL auction witnessed some of the most amazing bets and picks. Where some players were purchased for higher numbers than the base prices, some talented players were valued at base price. In total, 57 cricket players were auctioned on February 22, 2021, out of which 22 overseas players were auctioned. The famous 8 franchises spent almost whopping 145 crores in the acquisition of these players.

Chris Morris is the Biggest Buy of IPL 2021

South Africa’s star bowler Chris Morris was the biggest buy of IPL 2021. He was picked by Rajasthan Royals for a whopping price of 16.25 crore. Similarly, Glen Maxwell from Australia and Kylie Jamieson from New Zealand were purchased for more than Rs 10 crore. Talking about Indian players, Chennai Super Kings purchased Krishna Gowtham for Rs 9.25 crore. He was the costliest Indian player in IPL 2021 edition.

There were many players who were auctioned at a lower price but deserved more appreciation. Some of the players who deserved more limelight and big in the IPL 2021 auction are:

  • Steve Smith: Rajasthan Royals released Australia’s captain Steve Smith ahead of the new season. The aggressive right-hand batter set his base price as Rs 2 crore, which is relatively less as compared with his skills and experience. He was purchased by Delhi Capitals (DC) for Rs 2.2 crore. Steve Smith has delivered promising results in T20 format by scoring crucial runs for his team. It will be interesting to see how he will restructure himself along with India’s vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and star player Sheyash Iyer.
  • Dawid Malan: David Malan is auctioned for the first time in IPL 2021. He just got one bid which was one of the biggest surprises of the auction. Malan was bought by Kings XI Punjab for his base price of 1.5 crores. The overseas specialist batsmen were traded low on their skills and experience. However, IPL franchises are hunting down multi-dimensional players in 2021 who could do wonders with bat and bowl both. Malan will have all the eyes of Kings XI Punjab fans as he will play his first IPL match in 2021.
  • Fabian Allen: The Jamaican star player Fabian Allen was released by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the auction. He was picked by Kings XI Punjab for Rs 75 lakhs. The 25-year old all-rounder is dubbed to be the replacement of Glen Maxell, who was purchased by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 14.25 crores. In an ideal approach, the experience and skills of Fabin Allen would have probably gotten a price tag of more than Rs 1 crore.
  • Mujeeb Ur Rahman: Murjeeb Ur Rahman is one of the excellent spinners who plays for Afghanistan. His exceptional performance in T20 leagues around the globe has carved his name on the list of the best spinners in the Afghanistan roster beside Rashid Khan. The spinner was picked up by Sunrisers Hyderabad for his base price of Rs 1.5 crore. Even though Rahman has intriguing performances in BBL and other leagues, it did not help the spinner get more bids in the IPL 2021 player auction.

Shakib Al Hasan: Shakib Al Hasan will be back in IPL 2021 after a one-year suspension. He was picked by his former franchise Kolkata Knight Riders for a whopping Rs 3.2 crore. Even though the price is decent, but the ability of Shakib with both bat and bowl at various stages of the game makes him one of the best assets for the team.
